Blue Mesa Reservoir – Biggest Lake in Colorado

The Blue Mesa Lake, also known as the Blue Mesa Reservoir, is the largest body of water in Colorado. It is 20 miles long and has 96 miles of shoreline. The reservoir is the largest lake trout and Kokanee salmon fishery in the United States.

The reservoir is located in the Curecanti National Recreation Area, between Montrose and Gunnison and so offers incredible camping, hiking and other recreational activities that draws about 1 million visitors per year. The most common activities are boating, fishing, windsurfing, waterskiing, hiking, and horseback riding.

The landscape is incredible to look at or photograph with its beautiful mesas, deep narrow canyons, and the notable Dillon Pinnacles.
